Neo-Nazism In America Essay, Research Paper

My topic is Neo-Nazism in America. Nazism, which is the body of political and economic doctrines held and put into effect by the National Socialist German Workers’ party in the Third German Reich is at its highest peak since the destruction of Hitler’s dictatorship in 1945. In the streets, Nazis are spreading fear by using murderous violence and terror. This group blames the cultural and ethnic minorities for the problems in our society. These individuals, and their political leaders, are a threat to our democracy, and to everything that is decent.

Although not all Skinheads are Nazis, many of them are, and are a threat to society. Skinheads are fond of beating up people whom they think look gay or not white.

In the Northwest, skin violence became almost routine in the late eighties. Three Portland, Oregon skins beat an Ethiopian immigrant to death in November 1988. And the Portland police said the city was experiencing six or seven skinhead crimes a week during March 1989.

The Anti-Defamation League, which has issued a series of detailed studies of the skinhead movement in the U.S., stated that in 1989 there were about 3,000 activist skinheads in thirty-one states,

most of them concentrated in the West and, to a lesser extent, in the South.

In contrast to Britain and Western Europe, in America the skinheads are a suburban and small-town prodigy.

The Skinhead look is easily recognizable, a shaved head or very short hair; jeans; thin suspenders; combat boots or Doc Martens; a bomber jacket; and tattoos of Nazi-like emblems. The average neo- Nazi gang ranges in size from fewer than ten to several dozen members. While their look is important to them, being a Skinhead is not just a way to dress – it is an entire way of life. The Skinheads glorify Adolf Hitler and dedicate themselves to fulfilling his dream of a world run by white people.

The Skinheads’ neo-Nazi outlook and gang lifestyle give them a sense of power, belonging, and greatness over others, often in troubled environments and at an age when they are trying to find their place in their world. It also creates an atmosphere in which violence is normal. In the United States, Skinheads have demonstrated their willingness to attack or even kill for their cause, they are responsible for as many as 45 murders of racial minorities, homosexuals and even other skinheads. Wherever their gangs have surfaced, hateful crimes have followed.
